Porsche Club of America Werks Reunion

No matter what level of interest that you may have in Porsches, whether ardent admirer or casual fan, you should not miss the Porsche Club Of America Werks Reunion. Held on the spacious and rolling landscape of the Monterey Pines Golf Course, this event featured hundreds of acres of Porsches on display, from the earliest imports to the latest models of this renowned marque. There were even a number of beautifully maintained machines in the parking lot brought by attendees that offered a show-within-the-show as an excellent appetizer for the main course to follow in the display areas.

With respect to the displays, the show’s organizers masterfully arranged the layout and theme of the show to reflect their emphasis on celebrating both the Porsche marque as well as the camaraderie of being a Porsche enthusiast. As a result, owners who opted to have their cars included for judging were assured that the evaluators do not utilize concours-level score sheets. Instead, the criteria rewarded Porsches that were lovingly maintained and that presented well on the show field. Model-specific corrals were set up for owners to display cars that were not to be judged. The overall result is that this is a casual event that is more about fun rather than competition.

Additional displays of products by dealers, customizers, after-market suppliers, and service providers revealed some interesting perspectives into what can only be described as a mania for the marque. Notable examples include 914 models converted into off-road vehicles, go-karts resembling Porsche Formula 1 cars, and a camper/trailer built to resemble the rear of a classic Carrera. Nearly a dozen food vendors offered a wide variety of cuisine and refreshments for attendees to refuel and maintain the energy to experience everything within the show.

A cautionary note to attendees is that this outstanding venue has limited exit points, which can cause extensive delays upon departure. Thus, anyone planning to attend other Monterey Car Week events on the same day should arrive as early as possible to the Werks Reunion and include up to one hour in their schedule to leave for the next event.
