The start of this two-day viewing at the Monterey Jet Center on Monterey Regional Airport occurred on Wednesday August 13th and was capped that evening by Motorlux, an event that includes classic and exotic vehicles displayed alongside a broad range of aircraft. The latter are composed of current business models, former military machines, and timeless designs that turn heads just as their earthbound brethren do on streets and highways. They were moved to other nearby hangars after the conclusion of Motorlux, so they were not included in the preview event. However, the ambiance of being on an airport with active aircraft operations makes an excellent backdrop for strolling among the auction’s vehicles.

The compilation of photographs above provides a sample of the breadth and depth of the collection of vehicles slated for sale in the auction that followed in the evening on this day as well as a second auction session on the following day. This year 170 vehicles were carefully positioned inside several hangars as well as outdoors on the facility’s expansive tarmac that provided ample room for detailed examinations of the inventory.

As is often the case, a number of classic and exotic designs that were not part of the auction’s consignments were scattered among the cars in the parking area. They were an excellent preview-to-the-preview, helping visitors to enjoy passing the time as they awaited all too briefly for comfortable and courteous transport by tram from the parking area to the event’s entrance.

Once again, this is another event that we recommend to attendees of Monterey Car Week. The attraction of cars and airplanes, even with the latter at a distance, is an opportunity that should not be missed.
