(El Segundo, CA) The Automobile Driving Museum (ADM), a non-profit museum that preserves historic automobiles, is proud to present Tribute to Gassers II â âLEGENDSâ exhibit and car show on Saturday, August 29th, 2015 from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. The ADM will be hosting some of the most legendary Gasser racecars from here in the Southern California area. On display will be legendary Gassers from Blairâs Speed Shop, Glendale Speed, Edelbrock, and much more. Guest speakers include legendary racers such as Jim Kirby, Ed âIskyâ Iskenderian, and Robert âBonesâ Balogh. Inside the museum, a special exhibit of unique Gassers will be on display from August 22nd to September 30th, 2015.
A âGasserâ was a type of hot rod developed to compete in NHRA Gas Class events beginning in the early 1950âs and continuing to 1970. NHRA Gas Classes were created to accommodate modified stock cars not eligible to compete in stock or âfuelâ classes of the day. Gassers were based on production models from the 1930s to mid-1960s, which have been stripped of extraneous weight and jacked up using a truck beam axle to provide better weight distribution on acceleration. Weight reduction techniques include fiberglass body panels, stripped interiors and Plexiglas windows. Later, Gasser versions had the wheelbase moved up to 24 inches to improve rear weight distribution and therefore traction. These cars are often thought of as the predecessor to the modern funny car.
Check-in and set-up starts at 8 a.m. Limited parking of 80 cars. Register at www.TheADM.org/gassers.
