2015 PORTLAND VINTAGE RACING FESTIVAL
July 9 – 12, 2015
Portland International Raceway – Portland, OR
The Portland Vintage Racing Festival is a new event on the SVRA schedule. The Portland Vintage Racing Festival is one the oldest and longest-running vintage races in the United States, regularly drawing 250 or more competitors from West Coast and Canada. SOVREN, VARA, and CSRG members are invited as special guests.
Competition will be open to cars in all SVRA race groups and classes. Spectators will have full access to paddock area, providing them the opportunity to take in this rolling history of motorsports up close and personal, as well as getting a chance to talk to drivers and crew members. Saturday night’s party will start as the checkered flag waves over the last race group, with dinner at the track, music by Mitch Ryder & the Detroit Wheels, and a fireworks display.
Located in a city park, Portland International Raceway is a 12-turn, 1.9-mile circuit built on site of the former town of Vanport, which was completely destroyed by a flood in 1948. The land was acquired by the City of Portland in 1960, and the first sports car race was held in conjunction with the 1961 Rose Festival on a circuit comprised of some of Vanport’s remaining streets. A permanent circuit was completed in the 1970s, and PIR has hosted numerous amateur and professional motorsports events since then.
