A format change expanding the Friday program and establishing Sunday as a travel day has been confirmed by Nitro Revival officials in advance of the seventh renewal of the popular tribute to drag racing’s Golden Age that will return Nov. 8-9 to the Irwindale Speedway and Event Center.

“Rest easy, peeps…we’re not eliminating anything,” said Nitro Revival Event Director Cindy Gibbs. “We’re just making the transition from a Saturday-Sunday event to Friday-Saturday, ending on the high note of our “Line of Fire” and fireworks! Dad and I feel it makes for a much better show; super stoked to have on-track action Friday night and nitro in the air. As always, we will pause to remember those friends we’ve lost since our last gathering.”

Created by a group of racing enthusiasts led by the late Ron Johnson and her dad Steve, the former NHRA Vice President of Competition, Nitro Revival is a celebration of the 1950s, 1960s and 1970s, an era in which drag racing came of age while attracting national attention as much for its personalities as for the outrageous performance of its unique vehicles.

The latest edition will once again include an In-N-Out Burgers Meet and Greet Cookout on Friday along with time trials, fun runs, Gasser, A/FX and Tri-Five qualifying, cackle introductions and push starts all occurring around a 30-minute suspension of activity from 6:30 to 7 p.m. to remember departed friends.

Gone in the new format is “One O’Clock Thunder,” the simultaneous fire-up of all the nitro-burning vehicles on the grounds that was the cornerstone of the old Sunday schedule. It will be replaced this year by “Thunder at Noon,” a prelude to Saturday night’s signature “Line of Fire” nitro overdose and fireworks show that will bring an end to the festivities.

7:00 a.m. – Set-up and participant parking – Vendors, Racers, Cackle Cars, and Display Vehicles. Vendors must be in place by 12:00 noon. Good Vibrations to set-up on Thursday if possible
