★★★Elite North American sports car racing made a comeback at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway in 2023 and is set to return this year with an extended format.

The inaugural TireRack.com Battle on the Bricks for the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship this year was a two-hour, 40-minute contest. Next year, the duration from the start to the finish will more than double.

The six-hour race at IMS is scheduled for September 22, 2024.

Porsche Penske Motorsports aims to replicate the event’s “Penske perfect” execution, a phrase central to the success of Roger Penske’s international enterprise.

Penske’s squad achieved a full sweep during the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship’s first appearance at IMS since 2014. The No. 6 car, piloted by Nick Tandy and Mathieu Jaminet, secured a one-two finish for the team, outpacing the No. 7 Porsche 963 driven by Matt Campbell and Felipe Nasr by 17.421 seconds.

This triumph concluded a remarkable weekend for the “home team,” with Campbell and Nasr leading the practice sessions and earning the pole position before Tandy and Jaminet, who started second, clinched the race victory.

This marked Team Penske’s second triumph at the Brickyard for the season, following Josef Newgarden’s Indianapolis 500 win presented by Gainbridge, which was the team’s 19th record-setting victory in the iconic race. Team Penske President Tim Cindric was the winning strategist for both Newgarden in May and Tandy and Jaminet in September.

Cindric’s year also featured his induction into the IMS Hall of Fame, celebrated alongside longtime IMS executive Tony George.

In the TireRack.com Battle on the Bricks, teams also competing in the NTT INDYCAR SERIES claimed all three podium positions in both the overall and Grand Touring Prototype (GTP) class, with Nick Yelloly and Connor De Phillippi finishing third in the No. 25 BMW M Team RLL prototype managed by Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing.
