Camino Real Run & Car Show – September 4, 5, 6, 2015 – Socorro, New Mexico.
Hello and Welcome to the Camino Real Run, Socorro New Mexico’s first ever auto rally and car show.
Hosted by the Socorro County Chamber of Commerce, this scavenger-hunt type auto rally and car show will be a fun event for auto enthusiasts of all persuasions, be they lovers of historic, antique, vintage, supercar, hobbyist, and classic cars, or even just the family sedan.
The Camino Real Run is not a race, but a driver and navigator competition to earn points by finding answers to questions posed during the leisurely drive along the two scenic run routes. It is an opportunity to explore the many unique sites throughout Socorro County at your own pace, eat delicious food, sample the flavors of a local brewery, mix with other auto enthusiasts, and maybe even win a prize.
Because it is not a race, but a fun scavenger hunt, we encourage you to add additional navigators to join you on the tour . . . indeed, three or four heads are better than two!
This Labor Day 2015 event kicks off Friday night, September 4, when you pick up your Camino Real Run packages at the top 50, bucket list Capitol Bar on Socorro’s Scenic Byway Plaza. You’ll even receive a Free State of Socorro Passport to have stamped at the many venues along the routes.
The Saturday morning car show will take place at venues around the Plaza. Saturday afternoon will find event participants headed out on Run #1 in a staggered start.
By Saturday evening you’ll be ready to slip from behind the wheel, relax with a Socorro-brewed beverage and enjoy munchies at the reception hosted by Vertu Fine Art Gallery and the Twisted Chile Brewing Company in the 145-year-old adobe Juan Jose Baca Building. Music and dancing to a live band follow on the patio. Saturday also offers an opportunity to attend the Socorro County Fair and Rodeo that runs all weekend, and the nighttime Star Party at Etscorn Observatory on the New Mexico Tech campus.
Camino Real Run #2 starts Sunday morning and takes you along a different path to explore still more of scenic Socorro County.
You’ll be back in time to play golf or explore the other events on this action-packed weekend. Or, maybe you’ll just want to rest up before attending the Sunday night Awards Banquet at the Bodega Burger Company & Lounge and see who carries home the hardware.
Sleep in late Monday morning but get up in time to play 18 holes at the New Mexico Tech Golf Course. (Here’s what Golf Digest Magazine says about this course, “one of the 10 best public courses in New Mexico, and one of America’s 500 best places you can play.”)
