The recently announced Dodge Viper ACR isn’t just boasting of new Carbon Ceramic brakes with six-piston calipers or specially designed high-performance tires. There’s more to it than the hand-built 8.4 liter V-10 engine, or the 645 horsepower and 600 lb.-ft. of torque, which incidentally gives it the title of the most torque in any naturally aspirated sports-car engine in the world.
No, those aren’t its only bragging rights. Because, when you take those elements, and add race tuned suspension, nearly one-ton peak downforce at top speed, racing shocks and racing alignment, and all of the other things that make Viper the notorious sports rocket that it is, you get the 2015 Viper ACR – the fastest street-legal Viper track car ever.
The new ACR is available with an Extreme Aero package, which includes an adjustable dual-element rear wing, designed for air-flow around the body, a rear carbon fiber diffuser, and more. All of which combine to create nearly 1 – ton of downforce at a top speed of 177 miles per hour.
The brakes have been revamped as well, to ensure that there’s no such thing as too many days at the track. The new Brembo Carbon Ceramic Matrix brakes work specially with ABS and specially tuned ESC to make for greater handling ability and track performance.
This 2016 ACR, at 645 horsepower, has more than 195 horsepower than its original 1999 inspiration. Throughout the generations, weight was shed, torque was added, and power distributed, to help produce this fastest street-legal Viper track car in all of history.
