In an announcement from Detroit in September, General Motors said that it has created the position of first “chief product cybersecurity officer” in order to deal with the growing challenge of providing safe and secure computer and wireless technology in vehicles.

3619907961_05ea71bbbe_zAccording to the GM announcement, prior to being named as the hackmaster Jeffrey Massimilla served as GM’s “director of global validation,” whatever that is.

The increasing use of computers and wireless networks to deliver and control vehicle functions, as well as the growth of interest in self-driving cars, has the automakers and government regulators increasing their efforts to fend off the potential for hackers disabling a vehicle or hijacking its operation.
